"NCQA’s distinction reinforces Health Net’s commitment to provide access to culturally appropriate care and help reduce health care disparities"

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Health Net of California, Inc., a subsidiary of Health Net, Inc., has again received the Multicultural Health Care Distinction from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), the company announced today.

It’s the third straight time since 2012 that the company has earned the two-year distinction, and Health Net remains the only health plan in the nation, to date, to earn the distinction simultaneously for its commercial, Medicaid and Medicare lines of business.

The Multicultural Health Care program evaluates how well an organization complies with the standards for the following areas: collection of race/ethnicity and language data; provision of language assistance; cultural responsiveness; quality improvement of culturally and linguistically appropriate services; and reduction in of health care disparities.

“NCQA’s distinction reinforces Health Net’s commitment to provide access to culturally appropriate care and help reduce health care disparities,” said Steve Sell, president of Health Net’s Western Region Health Plan and president of Health Net of California. “We are currently focused on strategies to reduce several disparities involving hospital readmission and childhood immunization rates, timely postpartum care, and diabetes prevention and management.”

“Earning the Multicultural Health Care Distinction shows that an organization is making a breakthrough in providing excellent health care to diverse populations,” said Margaret E. O’Kane, president of NCQA. “I congratulate any organization that achieves this level of distinction. Eliminating racial and ethnic disparities in health care is essential to improving the quality of care overall.”
